Nov. 16th, 2014 08:42 pmYou know what are really surprisingly heavy? Calcium/Magnesium supplements. Like, my hand hurt picking up the bottle, heavy (my bad hand- it's not happy about being cold- but still).
Also, I now appear to be taking more supplements than prescriptions. I am not sure how I feel about that. I need to supplement the Vitamin D, because my body just doesn't manufacture enough of it (like, malnourished levels of not manufacturing it without supplements). I'm taking the Omega 3's because I don't eat fish and empirical evidence has determined that my brain operates better with them than without them. I'm taking the probiotics because antibiotics aren't rare in my world and because there's evidence that they can help ones immune system and my underpowered immune system can use all the help it can get, particularly since my coworkers are horrible about staying home when they're sick. I'm taking the cranberry pills because experimentation has also determined that whatever the hell was irritating my bladder goes away if I take the cranberry supplements (and comes back when I stop taking them for awhile). Plus, it's not like the Vitamin C is going to hurt me any, either. I added the calcium/magnesium supplement the other week when my legs were cramping awfully and sodium and potassium weren't helping. The leg cramps have gone away. The foot cramps have dramatically decreased too. And I tossed a B vitamin complex into the mix at my mom's suggestion (she is a nurse, so she's not just a random person recommending things) because I am basically drowning in stress right now and my brain isn't cooperating (there's evidence that it helps with ADHD and depression and anxiety).
I might stop the B vitamins because I don't know if they're actually doing much good (they're not hurting anything and they're pretty harmless anyway, but I don't think they're necessarily helping). And I will probably finish the bottle of calcium/magnesium and then see if the issue returns before I buy more. But I've tested the rest of them, and they actually are making a difference, so it seems like a good idea to keep taking them.
