- The surgery center called this afternoon. Of course, they called while I was going to the pantry to refill my water, so I missed the call. They did leave an extremely detailed voice mail. So detailed in fact, that I completely lost the thread after about the first 35 seconds when I realized I'd filled up two post-it notes with information. So I called them back and said, "can you say that again slower". And it was good that I did, because the nurse forgot to leave the info about taking my meds on the message (verdict: Take the meds, but don't drink much water with the morning set if it's after the cutoff).

But seriously, the list of stuff to know is really, really long. Some of it I already knew- no food of any sort after midnight, for example. Some stuff I wouldn't have thought of. Apparently apple juice is the only acceptable juice to drink before surgery. And I can only drink water, apple juice or Sprite until 5:30 am, because you can't have anything to drink within 4 hours of surgery (scheduled for 9:30 am). And no metal on your clothes or your person. Not even my Medic-Alert bracelet, which is almost always an exception to any sort of no jewelry rule. That was the other reason I called. If I have to take that off, I need to know ahead of time because it requires a screwdriver and another set of hands. It's seriously not meant to be removed. Hopefully Dad can get it off without breaking the clasp this time. I was like, are they doing the surgery with an MRI? But no, apparently it's something to do with a cauterizer and I stopped listening after the nurse said that word because I Do Not Want To Know.

I can wear pants (track pants or the like), so I won't be all the way naked under the gown, which is nice. I am hoping socks are also acceptable, because I seem to recall being super cold the other two times I had surgery and having socks on helped (the original sinus surgery and I had to have my wisdom teeth extracted in a hospital because they were upside down and backwards and not really in the right spot at all, and therefore needed to be done under general anesthesia instead of twilight sleep. The oral surgeon wasn't about to perform anesthesia on someone with asthma himself, so we needed a full OR with anesthesiologist). It's going to be warmer next week, but it's not going to be warm.

Surgery, thankfully is going to be in the morning. I was afraid it would be in the afternoon, which would have sucked for multiple reasons. Not the least being that I tend to pass out if I haven't eaten breakfast and I've been up for more than about, eh, 2-ish hours. I can make it to 9:30, particularly if I don't have to get up until 7.
