And a tornado. Just what I needed
May. 11th, 2015 05:27 pmApparently, I shouldn't have been quite so blase about the tornado watch that popped up early this afternoon. Because we had a very severe storm come through with a tornado warning around 4:45, 5 pm. 70 mile an hour winds (that is...112.65 kph. I think I liked 70 mph better). The storm went right through my town and my parents' town. I am fine. My apartment is fine. Both of my parents are fine, but I don't know about their house yet- they were both at work, so Dad was completely out of the danger zone, because it was tracking south of where he (and I) work. Mom works near my place, so she was in the storm, too, but I've heard from her. So, hopefully their house and the kitty is okay- I would go over and check, particularly because the cat is probably completely freaked out right now, but there's some flooding on the roads and the storm hit right during rush hour, so the traffic is a huge mess and they're basically saying to stay put if you don't have to be out on the roads. Dad will be heading home shortly and he promised to call when he got home. I'm watching the local news and there's sporadic reports of damage, but it doesn't look too widespread or too bad. Trees down and some power lines down (I do have power).
So, a pretty intense 15 minutes or so- I live on the third floor, so I went and sat in the hallway on the first floor of my building when the sirens went off- but things seem to be calming down. I don't see anything huge behind this line on the radar, so it should stay calm tonight.
