Feb. 17th, 2016 05:53 pmThing I really did not need on my door when I came home: a 24 hour notice that they're going to come and inspect the furnace and change out the filter. My apartment is usually in reasonable enough shape that I can straighten up a bit and sweep the kitchen and it'll be decent enough that no one's going to feel the need to raise any sort of complaint about my housekeeping.
Right now? It is a huge mess in the front room. I have boxes that need to go down to the dumpster everywhere. I have boxes that are going to get dropped off at the Free Store sitting piled up in here. I have boxes that have shoes that I need to return to Zappos. The kitchen is a bit on the too messy side.
Granted, they did say just I needed to have free access to the furnace and make sure there's no clutter in the utility room. You can absolutely walk from the front door to the furnace mostly unimpeded and I can make that completely unimpeded with a minimum of effort. I don't store anything in the utility room, so that's already clear. But that is seriously all the spoons I have for this tonight- I'm heading back out to get my monthly massage (more medical purposes than treat purposes) and then I will be as much of a puddle as I ever get and will just be able to shower and go to bed. If they want to kick up a fuss, then I'll deal with it at that point (my apartment has been clean every other time maintenance has been in here. I am pretty sure I can spin this as being in the middle of some reorganizing and decluttering. Which is true). But yeah, did not need the extra stress tonight.

Date: 2016-02-18 11:07 pm (UTC)Usually, it's not that big of a deal- they have to give me at least 24 hours notice, so I know they are coming. I don't know what week they'll choose to do the maintenance- it's not on a set schedule- so that's the part that's kind of out of the blue. But yeah, I knew that at some point, they were going to check the furnace. I would have just preferred it not be this week, because I was a slob all last week and most of the weekend.
I will also admit that I'm overly paranoid about maintenance or the management company coming into my apartment and deciding that it's too messy and they're going to evict me. The likelihood of that happening is really, really low, and there would be a lot of warning beforehand, but there was an incident in a prior apartment where I had been less on top of the housekeeping than I am now, so I still get nervous about it, even when the place does look fine. So, really, it's okay, it just hits one of my buttons a little.
