Dec. 18th, 2017 06:47 pmI tapered off of my ADHD meds (Intuniv) last week and today was the first day completely off of them. The side effects were getting to be too much (it was messing with my GI system, mostly), and I wasn’t sure I was getting enough benefit from them to put up with it. I knew it was also a contributor to my dry mouth issues because every single med I am on has dry mouth as a side effect.
Apparently, it was a major contributor, because my mouth is decidedly NOT dry today. It’s really weird feeling- I keep wondering if I’m getting nauseous or something because I’m not used to that much saliva in my mouth (and there’s a stomach bug going around, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but my stomach is fine). So, so weird. I’m sure I’ll get used to it pretty quickly, and it was nice to not have my voice going in and out all afternoon. I might even be able to sing again, which I have only been able to do really sporadically over the past...year? 18 months? Something like that. I'd have to look at when I started taking it- September, I think, but I don't remember if it was September 2015 or September 2016. (ETA: September 2015. And I mentioned the dry mouth being terrible the second or third week into tapering up, so apparently that's been going on at least that long, although I think it took a few more months before my voice started getting really crackly)
I was a little bit spacy today, but not enough to be super concerned. I'm also less tired, a little, which is nice. Only real issue is that my blood pressure is rebounding- the Intuniv kept it low, like in the 90-100 over 60-70 range. It's been in the 130/80 range the past several days and it bounced up to almost 150/90 today (on the wrist cuff, so probably not quite as high as that. The wrist cuff reads high. It was lower after I'd taken a nap), which gave me a massive headache. I am hoping it settles back into closer to 120/80, which is where it has been historically. And I'm hoping it does it soon. If not, I go back to the PDoc in late January and I have a GP appointment in early February, so one or the other of them can make a call about adding meds or taking me off the Wellbutrin (the likeliest candidate outside of the potential that this is my genetics catching up to me). I've been wanting to start swimming again anyway, which will be a good idea for multiple reasons, so I guess this is more incentive to get my ass into the pool. Of course I pick December to decide I want to do this. And the end of December at that.
So, we'll see. But man, I totally forgot what it was like to not need to take a sip of water every two minutes if I wanted to be able to talk.
