Snowflake Challenge #1
Jan. 3rd, 2012 02:33 amI dunno, it might be fun. Anyway.
Challenge #1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.
Hmm. This is tricky, because there's really old work and there's more current work. Let's start with some old ones:
Needy Child, The West Wing: This is part of a whole AU, CJ/Josh series that looking back is really kind of overwrought. But, at the time (2003-2004), *I* was really kind of overwrought, so it makes sense. But this piece in particular I like because I like the way it feels. It's got a stream of consciousness quality that I like and that I've used in other places. There's a little of me in this story, too, in the sense of being uncertain about a lot of things (just to note, in the previous installment of the series, there was an abusive relationship with an OC. This comes after, and while there's nothing explicit in there, it could be triggery, so keep your own self-care in mind, as one of my favorite writers,
sheafrotherdon, says)
Blind Memory, CSI:Miami: This is another AU series (I have this tendency to play with canon, and I'm more comfortable considering them AU). It eventually turned into Speed/Calleigh, but at this point, it was gen. This is the first story of the series, and damn, I am NOT nice to my characters. It's perhaps also a little over the top angsty. But this series occupied my writing for quite awhile, so I think it deserves some mention. And despite the over the topness, I think some of it is still pretty good, 8 years later.
Ok, now for some more recent stuff...
Steve's Pockets, Hawaii Five-0: I wrote this one as part of my NaNoWriMo challenge (write 30 things during November. I wasn't up for a whole novel) and really, it's just a bit of silliness. But it makes me giggle whenever I think about it and proves that, hey, I can write things that are kinda funny, too!
After, NCIS:LA: This was another NaNo piece. Oh, G Callen. I do love poking around in your head. I think it's because there's so much about Callen's story that doesn't make sense and I keep trying to figure it out and make it work (futile, I know). But also, because despite the fact that my life is so utterly different, I can identify some with the sense of being different and having to live with that. And I have a big soft spot in my heart for broken characters, particularly the ones who keep pushing on despite their brokeness, and it probably doesn't get much more broken and more persistent despite obstacles than G.
