I'm passionate about many things, but one of my longest standing passions is American History. In a previous incarnation, I was a graduate student in American History and my focus area was American History after 1865 (the end of the American Civil War). I ultimately decided I didn't want to continue with that degree, but I still love history. I'm currently on a bit of a Civil Rights Movement jag and I've been reading books about several different aspects of the CRM in the 1950s and 1960s. I'd love to someday incorporate my love of history into my current professional life, but I haven't really had an opportunity so far.

I'm also a crafter and have been my whole life. I learned how to do cross stitch when I was about 6 or so, and my grandmother tried to teach me to crochet around the same time (it didn't take at the time, but I picked it back up when I was in college). My main crafts right now are knitting and crochet, but I've also done various kinds of needlepoint, decoupage, some beading (mostly really basic stuff. My fingers won't cooperate for full on jewelry making, sadly), painted things (I painted a picture frame for my mom's Christmas present and she thought it was actually store-bought. I'm still a little proud that it looked that good!) and some basic sewing. I'd like to learn more sewing, actually.
