I watched these eps in a haze of Benedryl and Albuterol, so the analytical part of my brain is pretty well off line. But, I've got some general thoughts:
"The Dragon and the Fairy"
- I loved the basketball. Especially Nell, although I saw that coming.
- Clearly, G's language skills don't extend to SE Asia, which makes perfect sense and I'm glad they did it that way.
- I can't decide if the look on G's face towards the end when Cleary (?) finds out that Mai and Tung are his family is longing or something else. You could tell he was trying to not be judgmental, but I'm not sure he succeeded.
- And I am now very confused on timeline. Hetty met Clara in 1966. She said her first mission out of the Academy in 1968 was to Saigon. Now, granted, age-wise, Hetty finishing up at the Academy in 1968 makes more sense than having her be a handler already in 1966. So, now I'm wondering if Hetty meant that she *met* Clara in 1966 (at the Academy, perhaps? Clara could have been ahead of her), but she wasn't Clara's handler until later on? That's not how I interpreted things earlier, but it's an interpretation that makes more sense in light of this information.
"Vengeance"
- Oh, Sam. This season has really been "pick on Sam" all around.
- As soon as I'm a little more clear-headed, I will edit my personal canon for G because
hagar_972 and
sailorsol were absolutely right in saying G never served in the military.
- At first, I thought G was just being stubborn in how he wasn't listening to Sam and sort of just charging ahead with questions and things. But no, he wasn't. He can be as single-minded about completing an objective as Sam can. I just sort of forget that sometimes.
- When Sam said "I have to do something and I have to do it alone," G's look totally said, "Hey! When I say something like that, I get yelled at! How's that fair?"
- I'm not entirely sure what I think about Hetty's decision to go along with what Sam did. It's really a little shaky. Destroying evidence is a cardinal sin, even if he was doing it for (at least what he felt were) good reasons. And I think G wasn't very comfortable with that, either, but he was going to back Sam up to Hetty because Sam's his partner. I do think the fact that the autopsy confirmed that the stab wound wasn't fatal helped, but still. This is pretty shaky.
