Musical Mood
Jul. 17th, 2012 11:58 amSometimes, when I want to know what kind of mood I'm in, I open up iTunes and start a new playlist and just go through my library and add songs that sound right to me at the moment. The results can be enlightening/interesting/weird.
This is what I came up with this morning:
1. The Wind, Cat Stevens
2. World Full of Hate, Dropkick Murphys
3. Blackbird, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
4. That Day, Poe
5. Angel Band, Emmylou Harris
6. Wildflowers, Tom Petty
7. Get out the Map, Indigo Girls
8. Details of the War, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
9. Holy, Holy, Holy Moses (Song for New Orleans), Alec Ounsworth
10. The Cave, Mumford and Sons
11. New Soul, Yael Naim
12. Landslide, Dixie Chicks
13. Factory Girls, Flogging Molly/Lucinda Williams
14. What You Wish For, Guster
15. Studying Stones, Ani DiFranco
16. What a Good Boy, Barenaked Ladies
17. Make You Feel My Love, Joan Osborne
18. Little Lion Man, Mumford and Sons
19 American Tune, Paul Simon
20. Silent All These Years, Tori Amos
21. Walk of Life, Dire Straits
22. We are Nowhere, and it's Now, Bright Eyes
23. Helpless, k.d. lang
24. The Sky is Broken, Moby
25. Solsbury Hill, Peter Gabriel
26. Lua, Bright Eyes
27. Whistles the Wind, Flogging Molly
28. Keeping the Faith, Billy Joel
29. When I Was a Boy, Dar Williams
30. The Boxer, Simon and Garfunkel
31. God Song, Beth Orton
32. Swing, Ani DiFranco
33. What Sarah Said, Death Cab for Cutie
So, yeah, still a little rough around the edges, a little melancholy, but perhaps slightly more optimistic than the other day. Good to know.
A couple of those songs make it into most mixes I do. World Full of Hate is a perennial favorite. So is Landslide (I like the Dixie Chicks cover better than the original Fleetwood Mac. The harmony is awesome). There's a few usual suspects that didn't make the list today, though. And I think I really wanted the Sarah McLachlan cover of Blackbird instead of the CSNY version, but I couldn't find it (it's probably in my dad's music. Must go raid server).
