This is another thing that I'm trying to make a Thing around here. Recommending good fic that I read all week. So, here is this week's selection for your reading pleasure:

Two, Three, Four, Five by ArwenLune (SGA, Generation Kill): This one may be a little unfair to rec, because it's the latest in a series that you probably kind of need to have at least read the first story of to understand. So, here, go read Rock Happy, first. It should only take you 2 days or so (it's 31 chapters. But it's 31 chapters of absolute loveliness). You do not need to know anything about Generation Kill to understand and love this series- I certainly don't. But the concept is that these characters from Generation Kill get recruited by the SGC and sent to Atlantis. Rock Happy is the first story and it sets up the entire concept, which is the outsider perspective on Atlantis. It's absolutely lovely world building in terms of how Atlantis operates on a daily basis, who does what, other than the main characters (who do make appearances here and there). If you've ever read any of [profile] miss_porcupine's SGA fic, you'll love this series. It is largely Gen, with some discussion of potential relationships (that take a realistically long time to emerge, given the characters), but nothing explicit.

The World That You Need Series by Dira Sudis (Vorkosigan Series): I devoured this series in one night after having the latest installment recommended by [personal profile] princessofgeeks. I don't know why it never occurred to me to go looking for Vorkosigan fanfic, given that it's only my favorite SF series ever. This series explores a polyamorous relationship between Aral/Cordelia and Aral/his secretary, Arkady Jole. It slots perfectly into canon (Aral is explicitly bisexual in canon, so it's not even speculation) and it could really happen that way, behind the scenes of The Vor Game. There is one Explicit story thus far- the 4th one, Everything You Can Keep- but the rest are rated no higher than Teen.

In the Depths of Silence by Jb (SG-1): This is a complicated read. And a hard one, but worth it. Daniel comes out of a very bad mission and hits the wall of accumulated trauma. And he doesn't realize it, exactly. It's all in his head, so it's very dream-like (nightmare-like) and very complex (this IS Daniel, after all). Trigger warnings for psychological breakdown, dissociation, repressed memory and one scene of very graphic violence (he's in pretty bad shape and it shows). Gen.

Friends Like These by [personal profile] hagar_972 and [personal profile] sailorsol (Power Rangers, Avengers, NCIS:Los Angeles): I think the working title of this story must have been "Yes, We Are All On Crack Here. Want Some?" (I'm told "I Don't Even Know" had already been taken as a working title, so they couldn't use that. This may give you some indication of what's coming). But seriously, it's delightful and real and made me think, which did not surprise me. You don't need working knowledge of all three fandoms to get what's going on here- I only really know NCIS:LA, and have very vague understanding of how the Power Rangers work (mostly what I remember from the first US series back in the 1990s and what [personal profile] hagar_972 tells me so I can follow their other epic PR/NCIS:LA crossover, Salt. Which will show up in a fic rec post of it's own once it's complete). I've never even seen the Avengers, and I still figured out what was going on pretty well. Basically, all three teams need to come together to foil an alien attack on Earth. Or, as the summary states: "Why Jarvis is not allowed to make friends on the internet: In which the Power Rangers show up to help in the Battle of Manhattan." Just go read it, it defies explanation beyond that.

Aw, thank you.

IDEK is Salt's working title. Mainly on the basis that whenever a kudos comes in, or a new subscription, or we just look at what happened to the hit count, one would us go "I don't even know." Just no, really, what the hell, how did our private sanity-saving game became this, we don't even know. (This is an actual conversation being had over and over again each time. Really.)

It's probably not going to be completed... anywhere at least in the next year. Because we're going to keep going with it while NCIS:LA canon is being interesting, and I genuinely hope that that would be a long time.

(FLT happened because it was July, and I needed to get shit out of my head, and [personal profile] sailorsol enabled me and then had the patience until I came around to the idea of posting it.)
