Major, Major Relief
Oct. 19th, 2012 08:38 pmMy uncle came through surgery yesterday with flying colors. He was off the ventilator, awake and cracking jokes within 3 hours of coming out of the OR, which would be phenomenal in and of itself, but then he topped those feats by getting out of bed and sitting up in a chair yesterday evening, which is apparently unheard of after the kind of surgery he had. Today, they decided he just plain wasn't sick enough to be in the ICU, so they moved him to the step down unit. He walked there under his own steam. Less than 24 hours after open heart surgery. The man is a rock star.
And, I got to see my brother who came to town for a camping trip with some good friends of his that he hasn't seen in a couple years. I spent the afternoon with him, just hanging out and it was just so nice. He's grown up a lot (well, he's 30 now, so I'd hope so), and we could have actual conversations without him trying to tell me how to live my life, like he used to do. He was even sympathetic about my job situation, and didn't try to tell me how to fix it, or anything. It was incredibly nice, because I missed my brother when he was going through his pompous ass phase (otherwise known as "the majority of his twenties").
So, now, things are better and I plan to get some real sleep, then spend the weekend on the couch watching football. And sleeping some more.
