miss_lucy21[Early this morning. I've gotten up because I'm hungry, but I have every intention of going back to bed as soon as I finish up and post the story I posted this morning. Mom is up because she has to go to work.]
Mom: If you, you know, happen to be in a grocery store today-- and I am not saying you need to go to the store-- some apples and grapes would be nice.
Me: Mm-hm (I'm writing dialogue, so I'm only half paying attention to what she's saying)
Mom: You don't need to go to the store. I'm just saying if you do.
Me: Yeah, okay.
[Early afternoon]
Dad: Are you going out at all? (he's asking because he has things to mail, and if I'm already leaving the house...)
Me: Yeah, I think so. I think I'm going to go swimming, but I'm going to go to [the far away gym] because I do not want any part of going to [the close gym that is part of a mall] today.
Dad: I do not blame you in any way.
Me: This does mean I have to drive twice as far, but my desire to be in the pool outweighs my lack of desire to drive out there. Because I am not going to fight for parking at [Close Gym].
Dad: No, yeah, no. No sense to it.
Me: And then I am going to the grocery.
Dad: We don't have enough food? How do we not have enough food?
Me: No, we have plenty of food. I was just informed this morning that if I happened to be in a grocery store, I should get apples and grapes, and even though it was couched as "you don't have to do this", if I don't do it, I will feel bad.
Dad: Yeah, that's inbred, you know.
Me: Oh, I know. And I know that Mom in particular means it when she says it's not necessary, but I am not in the mood to fight my conditioning today.
Dad: [laughs] Well, I apologize for the conditioning. (because it really is his fault. Or at least his mother's fault)
Me: Eh, I'll live.
