One of my friends pointed out that the reason I may be tired may possibly be because I don't eat enough food to account for my activity level. I made a face, agreed that she was probably right and decided that I'll track both the food and the exercise this week to see how it balances out. This is taking much mental fortitude, because tracking food can make me panicky (I get obsessive. I never quite met the criteria for anorexia, but I did (probably still do) meet the criteria for "disordered eating"). However, if the answer is "duh, eat something", then that's a much cheaper solution than what I'll have to try next, which involves a doctor's visit and likely bloodwork (*shudders*). So, I put in everything I ate today into the SparkPeople tracker, and it came out to be about 2200 calories, which is probably artificially high, since I had McDonalds for dinner. According to the tracker, I should eat about 2200-2500 calories per day if I'm not pursuing weight loss (which I am not). Okay, not too bad. Well, then I input the hour of swimming I did tonight. Um, an hour's worth of swimming works out to be 1450 calories. I re-entered it twice to make sure I didn't screw something up.
Basically, I managed to eat enough today (mostly thanks to hitting the drive thru- I'm pretty sure I don't usually eat 850 calories for dinner. Oh, and the brownie with ice cream I'm about to go eat. That's not a daily occurrence, either) to sustain myself if I wasn't swimming for an hour. Since I did swim for an hour, I've got a calorie deficit of 750 calories. That's like, a meal? Two meals, maybe? It's more than twice my breakfast, at least. And that's just the swimming. I didn't calculate the running and the spinning class yet (I suspect they are not as intense as the swimming, but still).
So, um, "duh, eat something," no?
