Nov. 29th, 2012 08:14 pmIt is actually not that cold here today- it was 45 this afternoon- but I am freezing today. I think this is likely because I switched to the morning swim time today and the water was about, oh, 10 or so degrees colder than is remotely comfortable. Seriously, I expected my feet to be blue when I crawled out of the pool after practice (which is an hour). I wish I'd had time to sit in the hot tub for awhile, but I was supposed to drive my mom to work (her car is in the shop), so I didn't have time. So, I jacked up the heat in the car and took a hot shower when I got home (and discovered that Mom had made other arrangements. That was just fine with me because she works about 45 minutes away, so it saved me a lot of driving and gas). And then crawled into bed for a few hours because we were doing high intensity sprints this morning and we found the outer limits of what my poor battered asthmatic damaged lungs will tolerate. I'd been waiting for the exercise induced asthma to kick in. I was seriously starting to wonder, given that I swam 1000 yards in 31 minutes without stopping on Monday and I was just fine. Out of breath, sure, but not wheezy or gasping. But sprint 100's apparently is a hard limit. Or at least it was today; who knows what I'll be able to do on Tuesday. But since my lungs seized, I had to take another hit of my rescue inhaler (on top of the preventative dose that I take before I start, which obviously did not do its job this morning). And while one dose doesn't knock me on my ass if I work it off, two doses definitely does (the meds basically dilate my bronchial tubes by kicking up adrenaline). So, I took my shaking self to bed for awhile, where it was warm.
But even that didn't warm me up all the way- I was freezing again after being out of my warm cozy bed for about 30 minutes. Even wearing layers and wool socks. So, I figured hot chocolate was clearly the way to go, except we didn't have any and I had to settle for tea. Which I like, so it wasn't awful, but not what I wanted. That worked for awhile until I went to tutoring, which is always cold in the winter, because the church we meet in only turns the heat on when someone will be in the building. Then I was cold again. So now I'm eating hot rice for dinner and hoping that does the trick. It's too early to be perma-cold!
