miss_lucy21Today, it occurred to me that having integrity is sometimes a total pain in the ass. I just drove 5.5 hours round trip to do one hour's worth of work today for which I have already been paid. The contract was supposed to finish in September, but through circumstances that I had no control over, it was impossible to finish it until now. The amount of work left was minuscule, obviously, but since I'd been paid for the full contract, I kind of felt obligated to actually do the work.
I am probably particularly cranky about this because 1) it rained the entire trip and I hate driving in the rain, although, I was also thanking God the entire way that it is 45 degrees and not 35 degrees, because that would have been significantly messier. 2) I am not feeling well, have not been feeling well all week and today I have a wicked ear-ache that is melding into my throat. This precluded a stay with my best friend (who lives in the city I was going to), since if I am incubating something nasty and it's not just my sinuses reacting to the unseasonable weather, I don't want to give it to him, his pregnant wife, or his two little kids. And hence, the 5.5 hours in the car today. However, this trip kind of had to happen this particular week, because the weather, being as it is unseasonably warm, is likely to turn at any moment and that is not an easy trip in the winter because there's a large weather variance between the city I live in and where I was going due to lake effect weather up north. In other words, it can be just overcast here and there can be 2 feet of snow falling up there at the same time, despite the fact that the two cities are less than 150 miles away from each other. As much as I hate driving in the rain, I hate driving in snow and ice even more.
So, I am going to take my cranky self off for a nap, now.
