I am so pissed. Some...people busted out the windows in the church building I tutor at, got inside and trashed the place, broke even more windows and stole at least one of our computers. There was glass *everywhere*. All over the floor, all over the tables and chairs, everywhere. There was no way we could do anything in those rooms tonight, particularly not with the kids. So, we had Homework Club and Conversational English in the sanctuary. It wasn't ideal, but we got everything done. It helps that the kids were somewhat distracted by the fact that we were having a birthday party for one of the preschoolers and so a number of the kids who were there tonight aren't regulars (they came because the birthday girl is their cousin. We have a couple of families that are related). The kids who are regulars were a little confused, but not very upset once we got going. Thursday may be harder- we're not anticipating being able to use those rooms this week at least, given the glass cleanup and the window replacement- it's very cold in there with no windows, obviously. Fortunately, it's supposed to be clear tonight, so there won't be any rain or snow to do further damage before someone can get in there and do something to block them off. We weren't able to do that- no cardboard or anything around and we didn't have very much time before the kids got there- but someone else from the church may be working on that, I don't know.

I mean, thank God no one was hurt- no one was there at the church when they believe this happened this afternoon. But it's infuriating. I am not looking forward to explaining that the computer was stolen from the big kids' room (we just told the kids someone broke the windows and there is too much glass and it's too cold to be in the rooms right now. We didn't want to upset them too much). The cops were very nice, but they did not sound too confident that they will find the people who did this (they were pretty sure that it was multiple people, given the amount of damage). They tried to get fingerprints off of some pop cans that were left in one of the rooms (we could say for sure that those weren't ours), but there weren't any prints. Gloves, probably- it's coldish here today. But we do have the serial number for the computer that was stolen and the police have a database that will tell them if it gets pawned or sold at one of the local pawn shops, so there's a chance we may recover it. And they made a mess, but other than the windows, they didn't *destroy* anything, and nothing was harmed in the offices or the sanctuary. It's probably going to be a couple thousand dollars to get the windows replaced (there are a lot of them, and they are the old school style windows), and we can probably stretch the budget to replace the computer if necessary (it wasn't a high powered, expensive machine. And there's sales now and all). But we were all so mad and violated feeling. It's a church, for fuck's sake, you know?
