)"No, you didn't just leave. I actually kicked you out. I couldn't hardly believe the words that came out my mouth": In the Way, Ani DiFranco (Not my favorite, but a good song)
)"Dust falls on the empty halls of my old school, Where the memories fade like the casualty, a forgotten fook": Within a Mile of Home, Flogging Molly (Irish punk band. What?)
)"Well I see you in the morning, putting on your pretty clothes. And I watch you do your makeup like they do on those fashion shows": When in Rome, Billy Joel (I know every single word on this album. It was one of the first cassette tapes I owned back in the day)
)"I have set aside everything I love. I have saved everything else for you": For You, Barenaked Ladies (one of my favorite songs period, let alone favorite BNL song)
)"You can't afford no ring, you can't afford no ring. I shouldn't be wearing white, and you can't afford no ring": White Trash Wedding, Dixie Chicks (I'm not fan of like, 80s-90s country, and I don't really like most of the bigger modern acts like Kenny Chesney and the like, but I like the Dixie Chicks for some reason).
)"Memory comes back to me to strangle me with its sweet taste. See God would never be so cruel to make me live without your face": Poison Apples (Hallelujah), Joan Osborne (I...actually don't know this song? Huh)
)"Out in the garden, there's half of heaven, and we're only bluffing, we're not ones for busting through walls": Suspended in Gaffa, Kate Bush (Kate Bush is a classic)
)"I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again": Honestly OK, Dido (I really expected someone to get this one, because I used this line as the title of an NCIS:LA fic, and then I went and double checked the fic because I thought I might be mistaken, and discovered I never credited the song for the title. I should probably fix that).
)"You slept in your overalls after the wrecking ball bereft you of house and home and left you with sweet fuck-all": Clementine, The Decemberists (I was unsurprised no one got this one. Even if you're familiar with the band, it's a more obscure song and the lead singer's mush mouthed on it. I had to look up the actual words)
)"Some say you're crazy, say you're no good, say your family's cursed with bad blood": You're the One, Tracy Chapman (She hits me just right, always)
)"Holding you close, undisturbed before a fire, The pressure in my chest when you breathe in my ear": Lady of the Island, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (another one I didn't really expect anyone to get. I don't know if I would have gotten it, actually)
)"Well, I remember every little thing as it happened only yesterday. Parking by the lake and there was not another car in sight": Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, Meatloaf (I did say my musical tastes were a little odd, didn't I?)
)"I love the time and in between the calm inside of me, In the space where I can breathe. I believe there is a distance I have wandered": Elsewhere, Sarah McLachlan (this one I really did figure someone would get. But it's an odd one, so maybe not)
)"Mommy had a little baby, there he is fast asleep. He's just a little plaything. Why not wake him up?": Stay Up Late, Talking Heads (This one, the chorus is more recognizable than the verses)
)"Please, please tell me now, Please, please tell me now, Please please tell me now, please please tell me now, I made a break I run out yesterday tried to find my mountain hideaway": Is There Something I Should Know, Duran Duran (okay, there's a bit of an 80s girl in me, too...)
)"I can't believe what I've seen. I've been forsaken, I've been deceived": Leaving to Stay, Jonny Lang (This one's also a pretty obscure artist. He's got an amazing voice, though)
)"Tomorrow's coming round the hairpin curve of the road, she's got a run in her stockings and she's missing the heel of her shoe. Got up this morning rolled out of bed, I spilled a Diet Coke called my mother said, "Hi."": That Day, Poe (One of my very favorites. I didn't even need to listen to it to get the lyrics down)
)"I heard the truth about you and it doesn't really read at all with the whipping stick you raised me with. A scared woman in a private hell hushed voice like electric bell": I Heard the Truth About You, Everclear (Everclear is one of those bands that's a little quirky. They write about these terribly depressing topics, like mental illness, but the melodies are so darn cheerful that you almost don't realize what they're talking about until you've lived with the album for awhile)
)"As the sun comes up, as the moon goes down, these heavy notions creep around": Walk Unafraid, R.E.M. (another one I'm not sure I'd get. I don't know this R.E.M. album as well as I know some of the bigger ones, like Automatic for the People)
)"I was flying into Chicago at night, watching the lake turn the sky into blue green smoke": Stratford-On-Guy, Liz Phair (not from my favorite Liz Phair album, but it's servicable)
)"We are swimming with the snakes at the bottom of the well, so silent and peaceful in the darkness where we fell": Forgiveness, Patty Griffin (another favorite song. It's a good one to sing in the car)
Okay, you may all shake your head at the weirdness of my musical tastes now. Trust me, I get it all the time. And this isn't even a full taste of the quirky- there's no bluegrass, no musicals, no old style country, not that much folk/70s stuff and it managed to not hit my small collection of 90s rap/r&b. Not to mention that I skipped all the instrumentals/classical (about 4 came up in the random selection, if I remember right) and all the church music (I used to do choir, so I have a pretty decent collection of hymns I particularly like. 1 or 2 came up in the random selection)
