miss_lucy21I start browsing apartment listings. I've been doing this pretty much since I moved in, but hey, it's actually a realistic thing now. The plan as it stands right now is that I'll stay here at least until I get the credit cards paid off and build up a bit of a cushion. I'm estimating that'll take around 6 months. That may mean that I stay until next spring, because I really don't want to move around the winter holidays. Actually, I just really don't want to move in the winter. I probably won't be able to really afford movers, so I have to take my likelihood of having help into account and I know my main help (i.e., my dad) will not be all that willing to do this in the winter or the hot part of the summer. So if I can get my act together to move in October or maybe early November, then I'll do it then. Otherwise, I'll wait until March or April 2014.
So, I'm browsing neighborhoods. Closer to work- it's currently about a 25 mile drive one way, and it takes about 35 minutes in the morning and about an hour in the evening. I want to stay on the east side of town, because all the places I go to on a regular basis (the gym, tutoring, church) are on the east side. Plus, I know the eastern parts of town better than the western parts. My main target at the moment is a town that's roughly halfway between where I live now and where I work. The gym and church are in that general area, and I know it's closer to a 15-20 minute drive to and from work, because I go to work from the gym a couple days a week. That's a pretty decent gas savings.
I'm planning on looking at neighborhoods that are fairly close to work, but more than likely I can't afford them. I'm trying to keep the rent around $700 or less, and the communities up that way are more at the upper end of my price range. But I haven't looked too carefully yet, so I may be surprised. It's not like I don't have time to sort it out.
