I am officially a triathlete!
Apr. 7th, 2013 05:49 pmMy indoor tri was today. I rocked it. I went 325 yards in the swim (that's 297.18 m for my metric folks), 12.3 miles on the bike (19.79 km), and .94 miles on the treadmill (1.5 km). Which is not breaking land speed records (or water speed records, for that matter), but I finished and I was having fun and I could breathe the whole time, so I am very pleased and very proud.
I'm tired (although better after a nap) and I'm sore (mostly my dupke from the bike), but I'm not in nearly as much pain as I thought I might be in- I was sure my back would complain, loudly, but it really didn't. We'll see how it feels tomorrow. I'm taking a break at least the first part of this week from any sort of exercise, but I'd like to get back in the pool on Thursday. But yay! I did it!

Date: 2013-04-07 11:40 pm (UTC)I really want to do a sprint triathlon, and have been practicing, so I totally feel all the work that gets put into this sort of thing. Are you working up to a long one, or focusing on sprint tris, or just doing it for the fun of it?

Date: 2013-04-08 12:08 am (UTC)I don't know for sure that I want to do it again- I may change my mind once the soreness goes away, though, because I did have a lot of fun. I probably wouldn't do anything longer than sprint distance- I have severe asthma and chronic back problems, so while I can handle the time/distance I did today (better than I thought I would), training for something significantly longer is probably not in the cards. And I'm scared of open water swimming; I don't have any depth perception without my glasses, so not having lane ropes and having a mass of people around me is a little unnerving. But, I'm not ruling anything out at this point!

Date: 2013-04-08 12:17 am (UTC)I like open water swimming, but I've never tried with a huge crowd of people, just the locals who go out and swim on the lake. The tri I am training for is laps in the pool, but then outside running and biking.
