Last weekend, my father got the bright idea that we should have a yard sale. And that of course my mom and I would help without being asked, because why wouldn't we want to spend our Saturday selling things we don't need to strangers?
Yeah. That was the Least Successful Yard Sale in the History of All Yard Sales. In 8 hours, we had about 10 people come by the house, maybe 6 of whom actually stopped. Most of our neighbors didn't even come by (our next door neighbor came over to ask about the Bowflex and one from up the street popped by more to chat than anything else). I think we sold about 10 things for a grand total of about $30, and that's only because we sold a lawnmower for $15. I think our profit was probably only about half, if even that much- I'm not sure how much the online ad cost, but we definitely spent about $10-15 on sign making and pricing supplies. This is obviously not counting the time spent, because there's no way we made enough to cover that.
So, I spent my day sitting on a folding chair (thankfully, it was a padded folding chair), crammed into a corner of the front porch because it was too sunny anywhere else, reading The Last Witchfinder. My lower back/sacral area is really, really unhappy. I did manage to not get sunburned, though. And the weather was actually reasonably nice (80ishF, nice breeze). But dear God, it sucked. Never again.
