Not quite how I planned it...

miss_lucy21It is the first day of my 10 day vacation (It's really only a week and a day off work- I go back the 29th- but it's 10 calendar days with both weekends involved and that sounds way better to me than 6 days). My original plan for this day was to sleep until I woke up, which would probably be around 10-11ish, go get my hair cut around 12:30 and then go find sandals and a bra to wear with the dress I'm wearing for my cousin's wedding tomorrow.
Yeah, no. My parents are getting both a new roof and new siding due to storm damage (not the storm from the other day- from the big derecho storm last summer- although this year's storm had good timing, since we knew this was happening within a week or so of that storm, so it didn't matter if we lost shingles or anything). The contractors decided that yesterday and today were the days they were going to do our house. They did the roof yesterday and they're doing the siding today. So it sounds like very large things are trying to pry their way into the house from all sides. And even if I could sleep through this, I have to be available to cut the power to some of the breakers because they're going to replace some of the exterior lights while they're at it (they have to take them down anyhow to do the siding).
(the cat, by the way, is Not Pleased. Mom said he was plastered to her all day long yesterday- she stayed home for the roofers. So far, he's gone and hid a few times and then comes back through in full pounce mode with the wild/crazy eyes. Poor guy.)
I'm still getting my hair cut and going to the store for sandals and a bra, but I was hoping to not be awake before 8 am.
And to top it all off, I managed to give myself razor burn on Wednesday night when I shaved my legs (this happens even when I'm very careful and I may not have been super careful on Wednesday because I was hot and tired). I had a sample of this stuff that's supposed to be very soothing after shaving and the ingredient list looked safe. Yeah, it totally wasn't. I now have giant red patches all over my legs that feel raw and sunburned. Just the thing you want before your cousin's wedding, when your cousin is one of those popular/fashionable type of people and you are absolutely not in multiple ways (fortunately, I am not in the wedding party. That's fortunate for more reasons than this skin revolt). I'm hoping no one really notices my legs, because it's going to be about 7 million degrees (F) tomorrow with 100% humidity and I'm sure as hell not wearing either pantyhose or pants in those conditions. I'd try to cover them up with some of that liquid pantyhose stuff or even just makeup, but that would probably make things much worse at this point.
