Fall TV

So, given that I didn't make much of a dent on the ridiculous amount of television stored on the DVR while I was on vacation the other week (I did watch 3 or 4 episodes of NCIS:LA. I think I may be up to the Red episodes now), I've been re-evaluating what I want to do about fall TV.

One thing I did decide is that, yes, G & Sam and crew stay on the schedule. NCIS Original Recipe is still off the docket (although I confess to curiosity as to how they are going to manage the casting change that I'm not going to spell out in case anyone reading is still unspoiled). I just...I still care about the characters, but I'm over the plot, if that makes any sense. I've also decided that I'm pretending Criminal Minds ended when Prentiss left for good, because the episodes from last season that I've seen were not terribly compelling. Particularly when compared to watching older episodes in syndication, which are still gripping, even though I've seen most of them several times.

I think I'm also giving up Hawaii Five-O. Like NCIS, I do quite like the characters, but honestly, the best season was the first season and the show, with some exceptions for certain story arcs, hasn't really grabbed me since then. The writers seem to rely too much on overly complicated plot twists and I get kind of tired of plots that go from A to B to Z to Q. So, I'm going to declare bankruptcy* on the episodes still on the DVR and let it be.

Elementary, though, did intrigue me enough to stick around, provided that there's nothing in the remaining S1 episodes I haven't seen that kills my interest. I doubt it, though, given the impression I've gotten from the discussions I've seen around.

I haven't seen any commercials for new shows that have really grabbed me and made me want to try them (I've also been watching the Food Network and A&E most of the summer, so, there's that). So, I think that if I add anything, I'm going to visit some older shows I've been wondering about that I can get on Netflix. Everyone I've talked to raves about Scandal, so I may try to catch up with that one (and set the DVR for the new episodes). And I've been curious about Dr. Who for a long time, but didn't know where to start. I've got a couple recommendations for starting points from friends who are experts on the show, so I'm going to see about starting that. And I have a couple episodes of Hagar's new Israeli obsession that she's put subtitles on that I need to watch. Now that I've found an antivirus program that doesn't eat every last bit of processing power on my computer, I may actually be able to watch those (my computer is a netbook from 2009. It doesn't handle video very well).

*The concept of "declaring bankruptcy" is one I've put to good use lately. I finally decided it's okay if I don't read every post on my feed reader. I read what looks interesting that day and mark everything else read. I do the same with Ravelry boards. And last week I decided I was tired of underwear that's stretched out and not fitting (or never really fit in the first place- I have Opinions about how my underpants fit) and bought two weeks of brand new underwear and I'm throwing out everything else. I'm going to do the same with socks next month. It's pretty liberating, actually. Not to mention, my underpants now fit and I'm not having to tug them around all day, which is way more of a relief than I would have expected).
