So, today, I randomly pulled up The Casefic, which has gone through fits and starts and not been touched since mid-September. And I reread the whole thing, making some tiny tweaks here and there, mostly to things that upon re-reading didn't sound quite right or were a little off. Example: I have a character who's in debt up to his eyeballs and I said he'd purchased a $17,000 car. Except since I've been car shopping, I now know that's not a very expensive car at all, and I wanted to imply he had a car that was really a little too sexy/a little beyond his means. I didn't know that before because the only two cars I've ever bought were 1) used, so less expensive and 2) extremely practical compact cars that in no way could be termed sexy, because my main concern is getting from point a to point b without using up a ridiculous amount of gas in the process, not whether my car is sexy.

I was surprised to discover, looking at the stats, that the damn thing is 39 pages long and has 13,217 words (and that's after two rounds of tightening things up- I tend to be wordy. Like, a lot wordy). It's still sort of stalled- I don't quite know what happens immediately next, although I do know where the plot ends up. But I think right now I need to figure out what the Bad Guy motivations/plans/activities are so I can figure out how the team is going to deal with that. Which means research.

But I really would like to finish this in 2014. So I need to figure out how to do that. Because letting it languish seems like a waste of 13,000 words, if nothing else.
