That was not so bright

miss_lucy21It was -13F/-25C here this morning (actual temperature. I couldn't bear to look at the wind chill). I am in the middle of a giant project that has a hard deadline of Wednesday morning. It was actually a better idea for me to bundle my ass up and go to work (which risks frostbite, obviously, but also an asthma attack) than for me to try to work on my laptop, given that 1) the system I need to use to complete the project is not reliably accessible remotely, 2) I have dual monitors at work and I needed to have many things open at once, and 3) the best place for me to work here at home is on the futon in the guest room, which does bad things to my neck and eyes after awhile, particularly when I am in Spreadsheet Hell.
I made it, though. It hurts to breathe (still- it's hurt all day), but I did not have an asthma attack. And I finished the main part of the project and something else that needed doing today. It was a mostly calculated risk- I was wearing multiple layers of clothes, a wool coat and had a wool scarf wrapped around my face with a hood that came around my face as well. Also, I was not outside for any longer than 5 minutes before being in either the car or inside. And I will admit that part of it was that I am stubborn. But yeah, we get another polar vortex, I'm not doing that again. It really was a bad idea. I am writing this so that I remember that in the future.
