Mar. 17th, 2014 08:16 pmI think I have not talked about this here yet, but I am going to be an aunt. I was waiting until I was excited about it, I think. Not that I wasn't excited, but well. My little brother hits all the personal/social milestones before me (I did graduate college well before he did, but I also had a three year head start and a scholarship, so). Sometimes that is difficult to take.
But yes, in August, I will be an aunt. My sister in law's father has some sort of muscular/nerve disability (I've never asked what it is, since it's not really my business, but it's fairly serious. He is unable to walk and do some other things that require fine motor control). That, plus the fact that my sister in law is ethnically (but not religiously) Jewish (her father's family is, but her mother isn't) meant that extra genetic screenings were in order. Which means we know definitively that the baby is a boy, because the screenings showed the chromosomes (and it means we know the gender about 4 weeks earlier than we would otherwise with an ultrasound, which I suppose is compensation for the extra stress). The baby is perfectly healthy, my sister in law is also perfectly healthy. I assume my brother is also perfectly healthy, but no one cares about that at the moment :)
I need to get knitting for this kid, but there's this little thing called moving that is getting in the way. Soon.
