T minus 25 hours....
Mar. 31st, 2014 08:56 amThe Move officially starts at 10 am tomorrow when I go to sign my lease. Dad is coming with me and we're going to move the fragile stuff that we determined was too fragile for the truck (okay, he- I would be fine with about 90% of what he determined was too fragile to go on the truck actually going on the truck, but since he'll only let me carry the very lightest things, I'm not going to complain too loudly. Plus, trying to tell him that no, really, that box is fine for the movers would just make things more difficult which is not exactly in my best interests at the moment. The man is an engineer who was brought up to have things Just So. When he's in Project Mode, it's usually better to just roll with it).
Then I will start cleaning the apartment (yeah, I know, they're supposed to have done that. I never trust that it happened, so I clean the bathroom and the kitchen first. I won't vacuum, because it'll be pointless with all the tramping about that's going to happen on the carpets). Dad will go back to the house to wait for the movers and I'll keep cleaning and start unpacking what can be unpacked already. Mom is coming over to the apartment once she's done grading papers and uploading grades (the college she's teaching at is about 10 minutes away from my apartment), and she'll help me with shelf liner because I'm horrible at it.
The movers are supposed to arrive at the house around 12:30. The only things that are not in the garage already are the kitchen table and my armoire (because it was in my bedroom). The armoire is the only very large piece of furniture (it's not that big, but it's awkward and heavy to move) and the only thing I anticipate taking them more than 5 minutes to get on the truck. Everything else is in the garage, so very short distance to truck. If it takes more than 45 minutes to load the truck, I would be shocked. Then they'll drive to the apartment and reverse the procedure. I have them scheduled for 2 hours + travel time. I'm pretty sure that should be plenty of time.
Then the Great Unpacking will begin. Dad will be there to help assemble furniture (some of that I can do on my own, but some things are really much easier to do with two people). Mom will probably come help with the grocery shopping. And then we'll go out to dinner (because yeah, no I'm certainly not cooking anything) and they will go home and I will go home to sleep in my very own space.
Today, I need to pack the rest of the random stuff hanging around the first floor that my brain has tuned out until today (one big box should do it). And then the bathroom needs packed. I need to run errands and get my allergy shot. And then I can crash out, probably with the assistance of some Benedryl, because I have not been able to sleep since Friday- wired and tired is never a great combination.
