Clearly in need of adjustment
Apr. 23rd, 2014 08:11 pmSo, I've started trying to make some diet changes and hence am tracking my food in Cron. Which is scary, but fascinating at the same time. So far the fascinating is winning out. And I've been somewhat successful in eating more vegetables this week, since I discovered that I like salad for lunch and it's not terribly difficult to put together the night before (if I wait until the morning to pack lunch, I'm pretty likely to say screw it and go buy lunch. That's fine if I plan to do it a couple times a month- like Friday, my whole team is going out to lunch- but it gets expensive otherwise). Except one of the things I did the past couple of days was to put only one hard boiled egg on the salad instead of two, like I was doing last week. And less cheese on the salad, because the major change I'm trying to make is to reduce the fat I'm eating (my blood work came back a little questionable on the cholesterol front). Apparently, though, salad, an apple and a piece of bread is not enough to keep me going the rest of the day. I discovered this when I ran into something a little bit frustrating and found myself almost in tears. And then couldn't stop eating jelly beans. I am not a stress eater in the sense that I tend to eat when I'm stressed whether I'm hungry or not (I am a stress eater in that I don't make great choices under stress, but I'm making them when I'm hungry). And then this resulted in me eating a giant bowl of pasta and a garlic bread baguette for dinner, because carbs were the only thing that I could manage at that point.
So, clearly, I need something more in this mix. Because that meltdown was totally out of left field and when that happens, it's a blood sugar maintenance issue (it's also the wrong week for it to be a PMS issue and that feels different, anyhow). It wasn't that I hadn't eaten on time, because I had. It may have been the short walk I took after I ate lunch, but I didn't really push the exercise at all (I have to go back in and work for 4 more hours, after all). But the walk felt good and it's probably a good thing to do to get away from my desk and get some fresh air. And this didn't happen on Monday when I also took a walk, but had two eggs on my salad. The eggs and cheese are almost all the calories in there, so that could explain that. Tomorrow I'm having a barbecue beef sandwich, because I'd pulled the beef out of the freezer for dinner tonight and then didn't eat it, and then Friday I'm eating out, but I'll have to see if going back to the two eggs makes a difference on Monday. Because I can't be melting down at work.

Date: 2014-04-24 05:53 am (UTC)Cron has an option of letting you set desirable values for calories from fat/protein/carbs breakdown. 20:60:20 is the default iirc, and it is recommended to not go down from carbs=60. The rec for protein is 1gr protein for each kg body weight.
You should be aware that all kinds of fat that come into the digestive track get broken down. All of them. So unless you're eating significantly excessive amounts of cholesterol in particular and fats in general, restricting fats in diet is not expected to have much of an effect.
