random things
Oct. 22nd, 2014 09:19 pmI am miserable for reasons I don't feel like exploring at the moment, but there are a couple things that have made me smile a bit, so. (If you've been wondering where I'd wandered off to, that's where).
1) Someone I follow writes really kinky RPF with players from the San Francisco Giants (baseball team, for my international readers). I don't read the fic, because RPF isn't my thing, but I'm vaguely aware of the players she uses and it was unsettling in an amusing way to hear those players playing tonight in the World Series as I was driving home (I'm in Ohio and I'm an American League girl, so I don't see much Giants baseball).
2) On a related note, sorry Giants fans on my flist (I know there's a couple). I'm totally pulling for the Royals, even if they are in the division and therefore generally get the side eye from me. Again, Cleveland sports fan here, for both baseball and football. I am intimately familiar with the type of fandom fortitude it takes to cheer for a team that hasn't been to the playoffs, let alone the World Series in 29 years. Cleveland's been to the playoffs more recently, but their last World Series win occurred when my father was less than a year old and three years before my mother was even born. I'm almost 35, so that should give you a sense of the time scale we're working on here.
3) I am up past my bedtime because I accidently had Amazon ship stuff to my parents' house instead of mine. So, I had to drive out to their house after tutoring tonight and get it because there's a couple things in there I need sooner than the weekend (the place I tutor is only about 10 minutes from their house, which is much closer than work is). So I got to chat with my dad about his current book obsession, which is the US Civil War. Poor guy is learning that the history they taught him in school was...incomplete. I told him this is what happens when the only history you learn in school is written by old white guys. He was seriously outraged. It was really amusing. Plus I got some cat snuggling in, too, which helped.
